Sue & Paul's Alaska Travel Adventure
Day 9, Cooper Landing to Seward (5/22)
We left the Sourdough B&B after eating our best breakfast yet.  We started with a grapefruit which Lovie, the owner, told us she picked that morning.  They asked us how many pancakes we wanted, without telling us each pancake was the size of the plate.  They served spicy scrambled eggs and hash browns.  There was homemade sauce made from wild cranberries and other wild berries for the pancakes.  Needless to say, Paul maintained his status in the 'clean plate club'.

We stopped at Exit Glacier which is outside of Seward and hiked through the snow to the face of the glacier.  We have seen several glaciers, but this was the first time we got so close.  It was great to be out in the snow.  Our boots were gore-tex waterproof, so we stayed warm and dry.  The trail was well worn, so we were walking in the foot wide steps of others.  We saw a bear up on the mountain ridge.  We also saw sheep and goats up on several ridges.  Seward is the most touristy town we have visited, but in a very nice way.  The downtown strip is gift shops and art shops. We had a great dinner at Rays, a seafood place on the harbor.  From our window seat we saw seals, otters, and sea lions.  While in Seward, we also went to the Heritage Cultural center and saw a dramatic presentation of Native legends.  We were the only audience for that show and we enjoyed it.

We also had a great time at the Sea Life research center and saw tufted puffins, murres, seals, and sea lions up very close.  This is a research center and the animals they have are either injured or raised in captivity at a zoo.
